“I’m having a sunburnt summer.”

How did you get into music?

I’m from San Diego, and from 13 to 17, I was on a band and we’d perform at little dive bars. When I was 15, I released my first song, but I always loved posting on social media, which is where I got a bit of a following. Before COVID, I was posting covers, and since then I just kept growing and building an audience until I started to release music. When I moved to LA, I kept meeting other artists and took notes on their advice, which has helped me progress over the years.

What is “Scarecrow” about?

“Scarecrow” is about feeling stuck while everyone around you is progressing in their lives. For this track in particular, I was listening to a lot of Phoebe Bridgers and Holly Humberstone-I really wanted to get those eerie moments and synth effects to the track. I wanted a beat that made your heart race and kind of makes you feel overwhelmed, to match with the writing of the song.

What ice cream or popsicle represents “Scarecrow”?

The SpongeBob popsicle!

How was the recording process for the song?

I wrote it at my old apartment in Koreatown and began part of the recording process in the studio I had in my bedroom. I had a change of scenery, and I’ve met a lot of people that have gone through that change and gotten more inspired. So, I locked in and finished producing the track in my new apartment.

Writing this in the midst of moving in probably helped because, it was a bitch, and I was really stressed and overwhelmed. I definitely took that and added it into the track.

Do you have any fun anecdote from filming the music video?

In the video, I drink wine, and I wanted it to be apple juice with water because I was going to be doing a lot of takes. I had an empty bottle (obviously did not-it was full) and definitely had real wine.

What’s nostalgic to you about summer?

I’m someone who gets nostalgic about something that happens a week prior but just listening to Radio Disney in the car with my family, getting ice cream sandwiches-nothing will ever leave to it, that was peak happiness.

What are some emerging artists to watch this summer?

Riley Polanski, Jace Cameron, Elio, Jake Minch.
